My New York Students explore the mosaic of cultures and places that make New York City unique, while building artistic skills that help bring their own experiences with the city to life. Participants choose a pivotal moment in New York City’s history and compare and contrast the history to their own New York stories. Example: Hip Hop Renaissance Project From 15th century Europe to 1920s Harlem to the South Bronx in the 1970s, communities have continuously turned to culture to spark change during times of hopelessness. Why? In this project, students will analyze the development of culture while exploring their own ideas, values, beliefs and traditions through poetry, music production and performance. |
